Basil Akram (Head Coach 2021-)

Basil has been part of the UBCC team since he joined as coach in 2021. He brings with him a wealth of cricketing experience having played in the Premier Division of University Cricket.

Basil played his youth cricket in Essex before representing Northamptonshire 2nd XI. He then attended Loughborough University from 2014-2017 and entered what was then called the MCCU (now UCCE) set-up. In his time at Loughborough, he played six first-class games, including playing for the combined MCCU team. He averaged 58 with the bat, scoring two hundreds in those first-class matches. He also took career-best figures of 5-54. In 2014, he represented Hampshire in the Royal London 50-over competition, making his List-A debut.

Andy Stovold (Head Coach 2009-2020)

Andy 'Stov' Stovold was the coach of UBCC from 2009 until his retirement in 2020. His dedication to our club members was both generous and inspiring.

The success of the club in recent years is not only a testament to the hard work by UBCC members, but also to the quality of coaching (and man-management) received from Stov. Stov worked with all members of UBCC, meaning all members benefited from elite coaching all year-round.

Stov had a hugely successful county cricket career with Gloucestershire as a wicketkeeper-batsman. He scored over 17,000 first-class runs and took 334 first-class dismissals.

"Jacques Kallis was certainly up there..." - Andy Stovold
